It was surprising for me to see in that article that a single rail line being built in New York will carry 4 times as many passengers in a day as the entire LA subway system. What is it that makes the subway work in New York, but not LA? I think it is probably the sprawl. Interesting places are too far apart and spread out for a subway system like the one in New York to be very effective.
